Our History

Our History

Rolling Acres Farms was founded by Westburn and Gladys Hamilton in the 1940’s. While both were originally from Shawville, after their marriage they headed west near Meyronne, Saskatchewan. They joined his father Sam Hamilton on the farm in southern Saskatchewan. By 1945 Westburn and Gladys returned to Shawville where they had a typical mixed farm which included dairy cows, pigs, chickens and horses. And the beginnings of the purebred Hereford herd.

Our Farm

Rolling Acres is located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, south of the village of Shawville. The rolling terrain is ideal for the production of beef cattle. The cattle, in turn contribute to sustaining the environment as we work with nature.

When Westburn and Gladys Hamilton returned from the western farm, they brought a registered Hereford cow with them that became the foundation of their Hereford herd.

Their son Laird became quite interested in breeding Hereford cattle and had a great passion for pedigrees. The influence of that first cow is still seen in the herd today.

In the year 2000, Laird’s son Stephen purchased a Black Angus cow and started our second purebred herd. In 2003 we began retailing frozen beef under the trade name “Rolling Acres Beef”. The land base has continued to grow, and is mostly located in south Clarendon, near the Ottawa River.

Our Family

Rolling Acres is owned by the Hamilton Family. Stephen and Paula, Jonathan, Rebecca, and Andrew. All three children are involved in the farm.

Grandparents Mary Hamilton, Wally and Shirley Barber continue to contribute and stay up to date on the activities on the farm.

Our Team

Our team consists of Stephen and Paula Hamilton, their kids (and fourth generation) Jonathan, Rebecca and Andrew as well as Greg Hodgins and Simon Stephens. Rolling Acres values its employees and has implemented a safety program to ensure the safety of our team. We realize that good help is necessary for the survival of this operation.
